Synopsis :

This was a very special project to develop and prepare, as ‘Muxes’ tradition is not well-known in the rest of the country. And the entire creative team wanted to stay as close to the reality as possible.
Another major challenge was finding and then properly preparing the two group of actors, young and old, as they needed to learn dialogues in Zapotec dialect, learn hand-krafting from Muxes and other specific duties for the story.
Locations shot were chosen story wise, but they meant challenging and far away places sitted in 5 different towns inside Oaxaca City.
The screenplays were written based in a deep investigation and interviews to real people, using their stories and knowledge about what being a Muxe is.
The intention of the team were mainly about visibility of this ‘third gender’ as is known in the Tehuantepec Istm, trying to generate empathy through this friendship story about.
It’s important to keep creating content that challenges and calls out taboos that persist, and are growing stronger, in these turbulent times for humanity.
